Which resolution to choose
The four options
The Quality pill in the composer sets your resolution, and each option shows its credit cost right there before you press Make video:
- Draft, 360p, 5 credits. Watermarked. For checking a shot before you spend the credits on a finished one.
- HD, 720p, 10 credits. What you show at the kitchen table. This is the default, and the right choice for most finished videos.
- Full HD, 1080p, 20 credits. For a big screen or a TV in the showroom, where 720p starts to look soft.
- 4K, 30 credits. For a website or a trade-show loop, where the video is played large or projected.
Match the resolution to where it will be watched
If a customer is going to see the video on your phone or tablet at their kitchen table, HD is genuinely enough, it is what most screens that size can even show. Save Full HD and 4K for situations where the extra resolution actually matters: a showroom television, a booth monitor at a trade show, or a video embedded on your own website where visitors might view it large.
What your plan allows
Free tops out at HD, 720p. Starter and Pro both reach 4K. If you try to pick a resolution your plan does not allow, RenderSplash tells you which plan supports it rather than letting the video fail partway through.
You are not locked in
If you made a video at HD and later want it sharper, you do not need to start over. Open it and use Make it sharper, which remakes the same clip at a higher resolution, HD up to Full HD or 4K, for that quality's credit cost. It only moves up the ladder, never down, and it keeps the same shots and length.
