Put films on your own domain

What this gives you

On VIP, you can put share pages on a domain you own. Instead of a link that says rendersplash.com/v/..., your homeowners see films.yourcompany.com/v/... (or whatever subdomain you choose). Your brand is the only one in the URL.

What you need

  • A VIP plan.
  • A domain you control, typically from a registrar like Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Google Domains.
  • Access to that domain's DNS settings.
  • Five minutes.

We recommend a subdomain like films.yourcompany.com rather than the root yourcompany.com. A subdomain takes a single DNS record and does not interfere with your main website.

Set it up

  1. Go to Settings, then Branding.
  2. Scroll to Your domain and type your subdomain (for example, films.yourcompany.com).
  3. Click Connect. RenderSplash shows you the DNS record to add.
  4. In your registrar or DNS provider, add the record exactly as shown:

For a subdomain (recommended):

  1. Once the record is saved, come back to Branding and click Check again. RenderSplash checks the DNS and marks it Verified once the record is live.

DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to spread across the internet, though most registrars make them live within a few minutes.

Where to add the record

RenderSplash looks up who hosts your DNS and shows steps for that provider right under the record. If you want to read ahead, here is where it lives at the most common ones. In each case, the name is only the part in front of your domain (films, not films.yourcompany.com).

Cloudflare. Open your domain, then DNS, then Records, and click Add record. Turn the orange cloud grey (DNS only). A proxied record will not verify.

GoDaddy. Open your Domain Portfolio, click your domain, then DNS, and click Add New Record. The Name field wants just the subdomain part, like films.

Namecheap. Open Domain List, click Manage next to your domain, open Advanced DNS and click Add New Record. The Host field wants just films, not the full domain.

Squarespace and Google Domains. Open Settings, then Domains, click your domain, then DNS Settings. Custom records is a section below the default ones. Domains that used to be at Google Domains are managed here now.

Wix. Open Domains, click the three dots next to your domain and choose Manage DNS Records. Add a CNAME in the CNAME (Aliases) section. It is not in your site's own settings.

Anywhere else. AWS Route 53, Bluehost, HostGator, IONOS, Hostinger, Network Solutions, DreamHost, Porkbun, Vercel, Hover, Name.com, WordPress.com and Shopify all work the same way: open the DNS settings for your domain, add a new record, and enter the type, name and value from Branding.

Not sure who has your DNS? Use Copy all under the record in Branding and send it to whoever manages your website. It reads as a plain request they can act on.

After verification

Once verified, every share link you copy from Send to client uses your domain automatically. Nothing changes for videos you already shared: their existing links keep working.

Switching or removing the domain

To change your domain, remove the current one first, then add the new one. Click Remove next to your current domain in Branding and confirm. Add the new one as above.

Removing a custom domain does not break existing share links. Those links fall back to the rendersplash.com address automatically.

Troubleshooting

Still showing as pending after an hour. Open a new browser tab and type your domain (for example films.yourcompany.com). If your registrar's nameservers have not propagated yet you may see an NXDOMAIN error or an old page. Give it a bit more time, then click Check again.

DNS mismatch error. The record was found but points somewhere other than Vercel. Double-check the value in your registrar and make sure you are editing the right zone (not www, not the root when you meant the subdomain).

The record is added but Check again says pending. Some registrars cache DNS heavily. Wait an hour and check again before opening a support ticket.
